Anche rimuovendo i detriti, gli elementi contaminanti che rimarranno nel terreno e nelle falde acquifere impediranno la ripopolazione di queste aree per un imprecisato numero di anni.

Naturalmente mi auguro di tutto cuore che questo pauroso scenario non abbia mai a verificarsi, ma è un fatto che tutti i tentativi sinora operati dalla BP per fermare la fuoriuscita di petrolio sono miseramente falliti, così come l’esistenza di un “cordone sanitario” attorno agli operatori impegnati nella zona che impedisce qualunque contatto con la stampa, i giornalisti, etc. Tornerò presto su questo e molto altro nel mio prossimo intervento; per ora vi lascio con un paio di vignette cercando di strapparvi una risata a denti stretti…

Quando nei giorni scorsi leggevo della partenza dalla Turchia di un convoglio di navi cariche di 600 attivisti da oltre quaranta paesi del mondo, determinati a forzare il blocco navale messo in atto dalla marina militare israeliana e a portare aiuti umanitari alla stremata popolazione di Gaza, pensavo che l’eventuale attuazione della minaccia da parte di Tel Aviv di bloccare con la forza la piccola, pacifica flotta si sarebbe rivelato un autentico political suicide for Israel and the detonator of a potential conflict in the Middle East, with unforeseeable consequences.
